Shrine All-Star High School Band

Picture
Another All Star Band is being formed for the 60th Annual Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl on August 3, 2013 and the young men and women selected will be among the finest musicians in the twin states.

The Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl is one of the premier all star high school football games in the entire country. The All Star Band first appeared in 2006 and has become a very important part of the Bowl Game.  Last year the band took the field for it’s halftime show with 110 musicians and it was a thrilling experience for  everyone.

2013 Band Directors will again be Phil Crotto from Monadnock Regional High School, and Fritz Wendlandt from Green Mountain Union High School.

The 60th Shrine Bowl will be played at Dartmouth College and the All Star Band will perform in both a pre-game parade and halftime show. The parade will be at 12 noon and the football game at 5:30 p.m. The musicians are marching so that children less fortunate than themselves can someday walk; these are the children in the Shrine Hospitals for whom the Bowl game is played.

Band members were invited to a dinner/meeting April 14 in Lebanon, NH to meet with Co-Directors Fritz Wendlandt and Philip Crotto. Music for the halftime show was distributed in advance by e-mail.

There will be two days of rehearsal on Thursday, August 1 and Friday, August 2 at Dartmouth College and band members will be housed and fed at no expense to themselves or their families.

An Alumni Band Is being Formed

An alumni band is being formed for the 60th Annual "Diamond Jubilee" Bowl Game. Anyone who was ever been part of the Shrine Bowl All Star Band is invited. The Shrine Football Office has records on over 150 alumni of the band. Watch your computer or mailbox for more information, or better yet, contact the office at shrine.game@myfairpoint.net to make sure you're on the list,

The band will be under the direction of Maggie Flanagan from Laconia, who for the past three years has been the student director of the Dartmouth marching band. The band will march in the pre-game parade and will serve as a "pep" band in the stands during the game.
